SEO Presentation at The Foundery April 30

E-mail Print PDF

Search Engine Optimization - Tuesday April 30th 2013

Victor garbuttVic Garbutt gave a very popular presentation of techniques for Search Engine Optimization of Joomla! websites.

In Vic's words, "SEO is a moving target, changing month by month is some cases. But the basics have remained the same. Good Keywords, well used, with great links and fresh unique valuable content, connected into your social media networks will give you all you can get. Whatever your website goals are, sales, registrations, Email opt-ins, you can increase your  success with some good monitoring, smart analysis, and plain old hard work."

It was certainly an (almost) overflow crowd, a few of the usual crowd and we were happy to see a number of new faces.  The time flew by, and while everyone got a good introduction to the whole field of SEO, there was a lot more that there wasn't time to explore in depth.  This looks like a topic that a lot of people have an interest in, so there may well be a follow up event on this same topic down the road.

ACP Presentation at The Foundery

E-mail Print PDF

Foundery logoTuesday March 26th was our first event at The Foundery, with Alan Langford presenting the Abivia Content Pattern Plugin to a small but very interested group.

The Foundery, located near Bathurst and Dundas is a coworking space that offers an office away from home for “artists, entrepreneurs, innovators and independents”. Our event was held in their conference room, which offers space for a dozen around the conference table but could accommodate a few more in folding chairs or standing. It is a pleasant space, and the user group looks forward to holding more events there in the future. Our thanks goes out to them for allowing us to use the space.

Alan related the story of why he had originally developed ACP, in a tale that rang all too true to web site and software developers in any environment. Some of the more formal presentation was a reprise of the presentation that Alan had given at Joomla World last November, but soon progressed into a more interactive discussion of how ACP helps solve real world problems. One useful example was showing how to overcome the limitations of numbered lists as implemented by the WYSIWYG editor components that most people use.
